Did You Know How To Make A Link Within Your Blog?

Did you know how to make a link within your blog?

When I first began blogging, that was a goal that I had-to learn to make those great clickable links within my blog so that folks could jump straight to the wonderful thing I was pointing them to. Lately, I've had a few new blogging friends ask how to make a link with in a blog. It really is very simple, though a bit hard to explain (can't just show you, for it would turn it into a clickable link!)

First of all, your anchor text is the word or words that will be highlighted, the ones which you click to take you to another site. Before these words you will need to insert a code containing the URL of the site to which you are pointing. First you start with the < symbol. Then you type the letter a followed by a space. Next you type in href= followed by the open quotation mark ("). Then you insert the URL of the site, starting with http:// After this, insert the close quotation mark (") followed by the > symbol. Here is where you type in your anchor text. Then after your chosen anchor text you begin with the < symbol followed by the backslash (/). Then type letter a and the > symbol.

If any of this made sense, you should now have a clickable link within your blog post!

The comments really led to a wonderful sense of community there, and I am so glad to see that has been important enough to draw back many of my old friends!

Did You Know The Man Who Wrote James Bond Also Wrote Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?

Did you know the man who wrote James Bond also wrote Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?

I was telling my husband this a couple of weeks ago. I forgot how the subject came up, I think he was watching a James Bond show on TV. The one with Lucy Lu. I have seen it before, just forgotten the name.

And then yesterday, on Yahoo!, the biography of the day was on Ian Fleming (the author of James Bond). I wanted to double check myself and what I had told my husband. The article of course talked about him writing the James Bond stories, and then went on to tell how Fleming's life was probably more enviable than his Bond character's. Finally, the last paragraph told me what I wanted to know. Fleming did indeed write Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as well.

Did You Know I Finally Got Paid By Bloggerwave?

Did you know I finally got paid by bloggerwave?

For a time, there had been some question as to the legitimacy of this new blogging for money ad company. There had been several blogs written wondering if bloggerwave was even above board. There was no communication, nor was their even a way for bloggers to contact the site (the links provided either were broken or emails that did get sent were returned undeliverable-these actually happened to me). But today I did get paid by bloggerwave, as did some other associates of mine. I hope this is now the beginning of a better stint with bloggerwave.

Did You Know BlogCatalog Bloggers Are Using Their Blogs to Help Raise Funds for Schools?

Did you know BlogCatalog bloggers are using their blogs to help raise funds for schools?

This week many bloggers are pointing out the good that bloggers can do through their blogs. We can help raise money for folks in need, particularly those in the New Orleans area who are still not fully recovered from the devastation Hurricane Katrina rendered to that area. There are still supply and technology replacements that are needed by public schools. By donating , you can help these schools to purchase replacement items like computers.

Of course there are other needs that you can learn about here as well. For example, a teacher in New York is wanting to take a class field trip for underpriviledged students to a Broadway show. Or maybe you can help struggling students by donating to purchase books on tape.

There are many ways for us to help others in our "community", and as the world is getting smaller each day, our "community" is growing ever wider.

Did You Know How To Make Your Own Fried Pies?

Did you know how to make your own fried pies?

Or we sometimes call them jelly filled doughnuts-we can't decide....

They are super easy and so very good!

Pour a bottle of cooking oil into a semi-deep pan. Heat on medium heat.

Open a can of biscuits (we like the Grands whole wheat) flatten each biscuit out. Put a couple of spoonfuls of jelly onto one half of the biscuit. Fold the other half over and seal the edges together. Place a few doughnuts into hot oil and fry til golden brown. Turn over and fry til other side is golden brown. Remove from oil and drain on paper towel lined plate.

Top these with powdered sugar glaze. Mix up some powdered sugar, milk and vanilla, then drizzle over the doughnut/pie. Let set for a couple of minutes.

Delicious!

Did You Know We Just Refinanced Our Mortgage?

Did you know we just refinanced our mortgage?

It is such a heart wrenching decision to refinance mortgage rates for another 30 years. But as my neighbor said, "It's the American way." Sad to say, but for many of us, it is the truth.

Our roof has been leaking for two years, the wood around the windows was rotting, as my husband put it, it's falling down around us. Ok, maybe not falling down, but we definitely needed some work done. We just do not have the money to repair all the things that needed repairing. We looked at taking out a loan outright, adding it to our motgage by re-financing, or maxing out credit cards. We opted to add the loan into our mortgage.

Making desicions like this cannot be done lightly nor without doing some "homework". Reading articles is a great way to start the process of learning what is the best decision for you. There are many topics available to help folks in many different situations. You can find many topics, from knowing the best time to refinance your home to rebuilding your credit . Doing your homework first can help you to make the best decision.

Did You Know Fossilized Tracks Lead Scientists to Believe That Dinosaurs Could Swim?

Did you know fossilized tracks have led scientists to believe that dinosaurs could swim?

Although scientists have long thought that certain dinosaurs and other reptiles from long ago could swim, a set of fossilized tracks discovered three years ago have led to the confirmation of this belief for many more scientists. These tracks, discovered in Northern Spain, seem to have belonged to a large, bipedal theropod. This seems to confirm to scientists today that many dinosaurs were indeed good swimmers.

Did You Know How To Find the Square Root of a Number Without a Calculator?

Did you know how to find the square root of a number without a calculator?

As my son finishes up his math book for the school year, this is the last chapter in the book. I don't remember covering this, nor do I remember learning to do it with a calculator. This concept is not too hard to learn, but it is time consuming. It involves a few unique tricks to getting the job done, but it is a good skill to learn. I do believe it is good to learn to use a calculator, but not exclusively.

Did you know The Police are releasing a new CD?

The release of this new Police cd will be a great addition to any fan’s collection.

My sister absolutely loved The Police in the 80’s and I know that she still does. I would really love to win this new CD for her. We would all wake up rocking to the sounds of The Police coming from her bedroom. She had posters and loved all the songs Sting and the Police sang.

This Police cd would be the perfect gift for me to give her. I wasn’t always so into The Police at that time (though I really do like Sting and the songs by him and The Police.) I would more than likely make fun of her. I don’t know why, I really like the sound of the band and it seems to fit my style of music. So I think it would be a nice gesture if I could get this CD and give to her.

This CD looks like it will have all of the best and favorite songs put out by The Police. The songs listed by track are:

A laser is used to send strong bursts of light onto the vein. The vein collapses at each burst and eventually disappears. It usually takes more than one treatment. There can be some amount of pain involved, but this can be alleviated with ice packs. Treatments usually start around $ $150 for 15 minutes.

Did You Know About FreeCycle?

Did you know about FreeCycle ?

I recently learned about this great new network. It sounds like a really good thing. It is made up of people around the globe. You can sign up for free. Then you can list items you no longer want and are willing to give away for free. You will list these items in a local "neighborhood". Then others in your area can search and contact you to receive the item. It will be up to you to decide who gets the item. You can even list items for non-profit groups.

You can also search for items which you may be needing. This sounds like the perfect recycling program. It was actually started in Arizona as a way to reduce trash and help save desert landscape. This is the ultimate take on the old saying:

"One man's trash may be another man's treasure"!

Of course if you've seen any of the advertising, you know that it hit theaters today. I've not even seen the second one, though my husband took my son last year to the midnight showing of it the night it was released. I saw the first one. It was alright, but not something that really drew me back again for the second one. I may yet see the second one, as it was filmed in Dominica. That would be the only real drawing point for me.

Did You Know About Energy Resources Net?

Did you know about Energy Resources Net?

We have been trying to save money any and every way we can. Right now there is just not much available in the way of alternative energy in our area. We have a friend who used to work for a natural gas company in Houston, TX. He decided that he would open up his own company and of course is doing quite well.

When he first began his new business, he offered to a select few folks a savings on their energy bills. We were one of the ones he contacted. We have been able to save some on our energy bill using Champion Energy in Houston, TX. When we receive calls to switch our service, no one has yet been able to beat Champion.

Because electric energy is still the mainstay of our American lifestyle, it can be rather daunting when searching for Energy resources information. Learning about alternative energy will be a healthy investment for all of us and our future. It seems vital to all of our sustainability to be able to come up with other sources of energy. Particularly of recent note are wind energy and solar power. These have been found to be viable likely alternatives to our energy consumption.

But at Santa Cruz, they offer naturally flavored sodas, including root beer and ginger ale and one that sounds refreshing-raspberry lemonade. I am anxious to try a few of these products, hopefully it will keep both mom and kids happy.

Did You Know Cell Phones Were Invented Thirty Years Ago?

Did you know cell phones were invented over thirty years ago?

I was reading at a Yahoo site about the cell phone being invented in 1973. Wow! I had no idea it was that long ago. Of course, they were not the small hand phones we carry around today. And when they hit the market ten years later, they cost over $3000. Not very affordable to most folks. And yet, here we are today with almost everyone carrying one; and today's phones do all sorts of neat tricks!

Did You Know About Mineral Makeup?

Did you know about mineral makeup?

I have been recently looking into getting some mineral based makeup. It is supposed to be good for your skin and be so lightweight you don't feel like you are wearing makeup. It is supposed to help you look younger and have healthier skin. All of these things sound good to me. There are several that I am looking into, one in particular which has no additives or chemicals. The only drawback I can see right now is the price. It is a little on the high end for someone like me.

Did You Know About All Inclusive Caribbean Resort Vacations?

Did you know about all inclusive Caribbean resort vacation packages?

Because my husband and I are looking for somewhere special to go for our twentieth wedding anniversary this summer, I am really in the mood to surf the web looking for the perfect spot.

This website offers great information on resort vacation packages. We can choose from over 200 different destinations including the Caribbean, Mexico, South America, Central America, Asia and the South Pacific, The Mediterranean, The Canary Islands and one in Florida.

There are breath taking pictures to whet our appetite. There is great information on each location. We can read what others who've stayed there have to say. And best of all, we can save off the regular rates.

Did You Know About Our Summer Bible Reading Club?

Did you know about our summer bible reading club?

Last summer our congregation started a summer bible reading club. It is roughly what the public libraries do for their summer reading clubs, only ours uses the bible as its source of reading material.

Last summer we began on Memorial Day and went through Labor Day. In those 100 days we had several kids read through the entire New Testament! I believe that 16 or 18 kids completed it, with another 16 or so doing some portion of the reading.

This summer we are following the same format for reading through Psalms and Proverbs. The reading is much shorter and we have 99 days to finish the goal. After the first day to sign up, we have 36 all ready to start reading next week!

Did You Know Public School Kids are Getting a Long Summer Break?

Did you know public schooled kids in our area are getting a long summer break?

It was decided I guess about a year ago that all schools in our state would start more closely to the same date. So this week, schools let out and they don't go back until the week of August 21. This does not affect me too much except that now we will have less time to enjoy public places without all the crowds. We have become accustomed to going to public attractions during traditional school hours, when the crowds are not so heavy. But now, with schools starting later, and seeminly getting out earlier than they have been, those kids are having a longer summer break. What that means is, more folks out in those public places for a longer period of time than they have been in recent years. I guess we won't hit the beach until September now!
