I just read a news story about a teen who was sweeping the floor near some machinery. Apparantly, his long hair got sucked into the machine, pulling him and what I guess you could call scalped him. Ouch! It seems he did not have his hair secured at all.
I know when my daughter was young, she had very long hair. I remember once it got stuck in the wheel of a toy. It was a nightmare trying to get it untangled from that wheel.
One of my son's karate instructors told her that abductors like to grab girl's pony tails to get them. He also showed her how to use her long pony tail as a weapon!
