Did you know the Wirefly National Marathon takes place March 24? It stands to be a great race for those involved, as well as those who benefit from the proceeds.
You can check the website for full details. You can access race details, view race day maps, and register on line. If you choose not to run the race, there is a map for viewing stations for spectators. They even tell you how to get there!
A number of volunteers are going to be needed to pull off an event of this size and magnitude. The website gives information needed for those folks who would like to volunteer for the event.
My husband is always looking for a marathon to join. Unfortunantely, we cannot make this one. It looks to be a great one, and lots of fun. The race day route takes you past many historical sites. You even get to run down Pennsylvania Ave.! There will also be a half-marathon available to run that day.
The race starts and finishes at RFK stadium. There is a lot of participation expected, and due to traffic constraints, the race is limited to the first 5,000 entrants with qualifying times. The site has a full list of FAQ's.
There are also training tips and advice available from this site. Race Director, Keith Dowling, has a page set up with tips for your training. You can give him your email address to receive his newsletter. Groups like Team in Training, Paces, and Charm City Run also provide training for athletes entering this race.
Those benefitting from this marathon are foundations including the YMCA, Special Olympics of The District of Columbia,The Washington Mystics, and the Washington Tennis and Education Foundation.
This marathon stands to be a fun day full of giving to help others. It should provide a nice race atmosphere and full of lots of wonderful scenery. Check out The National Marathon's website for much more.
