Did You Know How to Host Your Own Backyard Jousting Tournament?

Did you know how to host your own medieval jousting tournament?

We have been doing lots of reading about the Middle Ages. We have learned about Kings and Queens, castles, knights and armor. We spent the day yesterday hosting a tournament and feast, as might have been celebrated in the Middle Ages.

First my two young nephews, decked in knight's regalia , demonstrated proper (cardboard) sword technique, but we could not finish without some hand to hand combat.

Next, they used their wrapping-paper-tube-turned-lance to joust against each other. Then they and my daughter tried to hook some rings with their lances, some mid-level, some low, some high and some tossed in the air. After these feats, they demonstrated their archery skills.

Next came the games of agility and strength with acrobatics and juggling.

Then finally to finish the day off in a really cool way, a game of bobbing for apples.

We then proceeded to the table set as a feast . We had spit-roasted (grocery store rotisserie) chicken, carrots, fruits, bread, butter, cheese, and honey. My daughter even remembered to set the salt on the table, below everyone in attendance of course. We finished with a pastry dessert. Our reading said the desserts were elaborate and the pastry was pancake or funnel cake-like, so we made funnel cakes with strawberry jam.

Huzzah!

Now that's cool.

That's something I could get into. Loved the costumes, made it seem more real for those kids, but I don't remember anything about metal swingsets in my history books. LOL

Great post, hon.
