Did you know about the controversy of Lasik surgery on professional athletes?
I guess I am behind the times, because I only heard of this issue today. Apparently, athletes today are turning to whatever means they can to "enhance" their performance. But that word "enhance" has become somewhat of a red flag to folks who cry that "enhancements" on pro athletes are a form of cheating.
I was reading about some of the debate over performance enhancing drugs and how they are considered cheating in sports pretty much across the board. But one reporter asks, why then is lasik surgery not considered cheating? It is enhancing performance on a level that is "not natural", he contends.
There is a long list of athletes who are choosing to have this laser eye surgery. Not because their vision needs correction, but to better their advantage in the game-to enhance their performance. From athletes in baseball like Mark McGuire, to hoop stars like LeBron James, to golfers like Tiger Woods, it seems that scores of competitors are choosing a procedure that for now is a legal way of giving them the better edge, the advantage, an enhancement...
