Did you know how big the universe is?
My daughter did a lab today in which she drew a scaled down version of the universe. We figured out the proportions of the sun and planets if the sun were one yard wide.
This was a lot of fun and the sizes and distances were manageable. We were able to draw this on our street using sidewalk chalk. Of course, we were not exact, as it is nearly impossible to draw Pluto at .06 of an inch using sidewalk chalk (yes, we still counted Pluto as a planet-guess we are behind the times!)

What a fun activity!
That's great silken. I hope it doesn't rain — pity to lose that hard work!
well, it DID rain! too bad!
but it really was a fun activity. I liked how simple it turned out to be and gave a great perspective on the size of the solar system!
That's a good exercise. I think one of today's biggest problems is the loss of perspective. More of us should do similar exercises to perhaps bring some of it back!
it really did bring it in to perspective for us. it was much easier than I thought it would be. and seeing the size and distance was very cool.
