Did you know about Crucifixions?
In today's sermon, we were reminded of the death of Jesus. The preacher wanted to make sure we had an image of what this all involved. It is really a horrific death, "perfected" by the Romans.
When the nails were driven into the hands and feet, no vital organs would be disturbed. This made certain that the victim would suffer greatly before finally dying. Bugs and birds most assurdly preyed upon the bleeding, scarred body hanging in the air.
Breathing was most difficult, especially the exhalation. Taking a breath and then letting it back out was laborious and painful. The crucified person most often eventually died of suffocation.
