Did you know you can get your SAT scores online?
While waiting for the official results from SAT tests to come in the mail, students can also access their scores at the College Board SAT website. We found out today that October's scores will be posted tomorrow, Oct. 28. Just enough time to get your recent scores and still meet some application deadlines.

Did You Know TCU is paying for my son's next college entrance exam?
Did you know TCU is paying for my son's next college entrance exam?
Which is good since we know he has to take it again! :) He received an email from TCU last week giving him a code to enter that will waive the fees for his next SAT or ACT exam. I am not sure why he received this. I don't know if it is because we went to visit TCU last fall. Or if his grades are good. Or if it is part of a statewide effort.
I did receive a notice that homeschool juniors are being offered a free SAT or ACT as well as public school juniors, who are having theirs paid for by a state initiative. I don't know if this is part of a new program or what exactly, but we are thankful to have his next test paid for!!

Did You Know You Should Check Your Calculator BEFORE the Test?
Did you know you should check your calculator before the test?
Soon after I returned from my trip, my son took the SAT test for the first time. He went prepared. When I picked him up he warned me that he was not happy-that he already knew his score would be low!
He said he did very well on the essay, maybe the best essay he's ever written! (It helped that the topic was something he was ready to write about!) Then he fairly flew through the reading section. He said he was doing fine on the math, until he realized that his calculator was acting weird. He said he finally began just entering 2+2 and a few other simple equations and got nonsense answers in return. Needless to say, he could not do many of the math problems (I am sure they don't teach them any "old" methods of figuring problems the long way!) so he was just preparing me that the score would be low. And he was pretty bummed by it because he felt so good about the rest of the test. Thankfully, he can retake it.
