Did You Know About River Hong Bao?

Did you know about the River Hong Bao?

This was a treat for us on New Year's night. We went downtown and took in the sights and festivities that were set up in celebration of the incoming Year of the Tiger.

We enjoyed all the colorful decorations, the horoscope animals (we all took our photo in front of our animal), the light up scenes and the sights and sounds.

The city across the waves was beautiful, the festivities were loud and the stage show was interesting though not the highlight of our evening. Perhaps my favorite things that night were the animal horoscope and the dragon & phoenix display made out of dishes!

Did You Know About Chinatown During Chinese New Year?

Did you know about Chinatown during Chinese New Year?

We were thrilled to be in Singapore to welcome in the Year of the Tiger!

We arrived just days before the new year began and were blessed to take part in many of the local customs. One of the first things we did was to visit Chinatown and take in all the decorations.

We went during the afternoon so that it was not as crowded as it would be in the evening/night. The crowds were enough for us! It was hot and crowded but very festive. We enjoyed all the beautiful decorations.

Did You Know Tonight is Reunion Dinner?

Did you know tonight is Reunion Dinner?

Visiting here in Singapore we are taking part in the traditional festivities of Chinese New Year. Tonight we will be having Reunion Dinner with our friends' parents. We are expecting the traditional dishes as well as bringing some more Americanized dishes! There will be 20 people in attendance, seeing the old year out. Tomorrow we will ring in the year of the tiger with our new clothes and visiting the elders in our friends' families. I am so happy to be blessed to be here to share in these traditions.

Did You Know It Is The Year Of The Ox?

Did you know it is the year of the Ox?

2009 will begin on the Chinese calendar tomorrow. It will ring in the year of the Ox , the second animal on the Chinese zodiac. There is a legend that goes along with the zodiac and how the animals got their place. The zodiac is a cycle of twelve years, each represented by an animal. You can find out which animal you are on the zodiac as well. It's fun to read the whimsical descriptions of each.

Did You Know Today Is Chinese New Year?

Did you know today is Chinese New Year?

It begins the Year of the Rat.

Both my dad and my daughter were born in the year of the rat. (That's right-one big rat and one little rat!) We celebrated early last weekend with friends. We had the traditional fish-well, not traditional in the sense of bones, tail and head-fried rice, stir fry veggies, fruits, and fortune cookies. I even found chocolate fortune cookies!

And all the kids received their red packets.
